Zora's developer docs (checked 1 October 2026) set the trading fee at 1% of each trade, and Zora charges no fee to create a coin. Every new coin starts at a 99% fee that falls to 1% over 10 seconds.\n\nZora is a social app first. Each post becomes a coin, and a profile can have one creator coin that stands for the creator as a whole. Zora's own sources do not agree on how much of the 1% fee the creator gets: the docs say half, and two help centre articles say 1% of every trade. A coin on Zora can lose all of its value, and a post or a known creator does not make demand for the coin last.\n\n### Pros\n\n- No fee to create a coin, and creator coin activation is free, according to the Zora help centre\n- No bonding curve and no graduation wait: coins trade in a Uniswap V4 pool from creation\n- Creators earn on every trade of their coins, and Zora pays the rewards automatically on each swap\n- Zora says its wallets are self-custodial, built with Privy, so Zora cannot move your funds\n- 20% of the fee on creator and content coins goes back into the pool as permanent liquidity\n\n### Cons\n\n- Zora's sources give two different creator shares: 0.5% of each trade in the docs, 1% in two help centre articles\n- The help centre also lists a transaction fee of $0.50 on trades under $50 and does not say whether it comes on top of the pool fee\n- Once a creator coin is active, it cannot be turned off, and the username becomes a ticker that cannot change\n- A content coin is tied to one post, and demand for that coin can stop quickly\n- Zora's referral fee shares go to apps and to the accounts that refer creators or trades, not to traders as a fee discount\n\n### Best for\n\n- Creators who already post content and want to earn a share of the fee each time someone trades their coins\n- Traders who want exposure to one creator or one post rather than a token with no owner behind it\n- Anyone who prefers a coin that trades in a full pool from launch, with no bonding curve and no graduation wait\n\n### Skip it if\n\n- You want a dedicated launchpad interface. Zora is a social app first, and the coin tools sit inside the feed\n- You place many small trades in the Zora app. The help centre lists a flat $0.50 transaction fee on trades under $50\n\n### What are Zora creator coins?\n\nA Zora creator coin is a coin for a whole Zora profile. The username becomes the ticker, so the account @name trades as $name. Each account can have only one creator coin, and the help centre says creator coins run on Base and always pair against the ZORA token.\n\nEach creator coin has a fixed supply of 1 billion. Half goes to the open market at launch. The other half goes to the creator and vests in a straight line over 5 years, according to the Zora docs and the help centre article on creator coin allocation.\n\nA content coin, which Zora also calls a post coin, is a coin for one post. It also has a supply of 1 billion, and the docs say 10 million of those go to the creator at once. By default, a content coin pairs against the creator's own coin. Since August 2026, a creator can choose a Custom Pair instead, such as ETH, USDC, a Robinhood stock token or a Solana token.\n\nThe creator coin is optional for posting. The account guide in the help centre (edited 13 May 2026) marks creator coin activation as optional, and Zora's change log says that since March 2026 a user can post to a Trend without a creator coin. The help article on creator coins (edited 12 August 2026) says new users get one automatically. Activation is permanent: once a creator coin is on, the help centre says you cannot turn it off.\n\n### How do Zora creator coins work?\n\nWhen a coin is created, Zora puts liquidity into a Uniswap V4 pool. The docs say Zora uses the Doppler protocol to place that first liquidity in several price ranges. The coin trades in this pool from the first second. There is no bonding-curve phase and no later move to another exchange.\n\nA custom hook on the pool runs on every trade. It takes the fee, swaps the reward part into ZORA and pays each recipient in the same transaction, so a creator does not claim rewards by hand. For creator and content coins, the hook keeps 20% of the fee in the pool as new liquidity outside the current price range, which makes the pool deeper over time.\n\nEvery new coin has an early launch fee, which the docs call a sniper tax. The fee starts at 99% at creation and falls in a straight line to the base fee over 10 seconds. It applies to buys and sells. A creator's own first buy at launch pays the normal 1% fee.\n\nZora coins trade on Base, Robinhood Chain and Solana. Creator coins and default content coins use Base. Custom Pair coins can launch on the chain where the paired asset lives. Zora says it sponsors gas for swaps on all three chains, according to its August 2026 update.\n\n### Zora creator coin fees\n\nCreator coins and content coins on V2.2.0 or later hooks pay a 1% fee on each trade. The Coin Rewards page in the Zora docs splits that fee as follows: 50% to the creator, 20% kept as pool liquidity, 20% to the platform that brought in the creator, 4% to the account or app that referred the trade, 5% to the Zora protocol and 1% to Doppler. The help centre article Understanding Rewards on Zora (edited 12 August 2026) gives the same split as shares of each trade: 0.5% to the creator.\n\nZora's sources do not agree on the creator share. Two help centre articles, How Creators Earn on Zora and Understanding Creator Coins (both edited 12 August 2026), say the creator earns 1% of every trade. The docs (checked 1 October 2026) give 50% of the 1% fee, which is 0.5% of each trade. The two figures differ by a factor of two. A creator who needs the exact figure should ask Zora support.\n\nCustom Pair coins also pay a 1% fee on each trade, but the split is different. The creator gets 0.70% of each trade on Base, Robinhood Chain and Solana. Zora gets 0.25% on Base and Robinhood Chain and 0.225% on Solana. Doppler gets the rest. Custom Pair coins pay no referral share.\n\nTrend coins, which Zora also calls tag coins, pay 0.01% per trade, and all of it goes to the Zora protocol. Trend coins pay no creator reward.\n\nThe help centre also lists a transaction fee for trades on Zora: a flat $0.50 on trades under $50, and 1% on trades of $50 and above. The articles do not say whether this fee comes on top of the 1% pool fee. Coins from before September 2025, or with hooks older than V2.2.0, keep an older fee schedule of up to 3% until their liquidity moves to a newer hook.\n\n### Zora creator coins vs launchpad memecoins\n\nOn a launchpad such as pump.fun, a new token first trades on a bonding curve. A bonding curve is a formula that sets the price from the number of tokens sold. When the curve fills, the token graduates and its liquidity moves to a DEX, which for pump.fun is PumpSwap. The pump.fun fee page (updated 20 May 2026) lists a 1.25% fee on curve trades, of which 0.30% goes to the creator, and a 0.015 SOL fee when a coin graduates.\n\nA Zora coin skips both steps. It trades in its Uniswap pool from creation, so there is no curve to fill and no graduation event. The creator share is also larger on paper: 0.5% to 1% of each trade on Zora, against 0.30% on the pump.fun curve.\n\nThe reason to buy is different too. A launchpad memecoin usually stands on a name, a joke or a story. A Zora coin is tied to a post or to a creator profile, so buyers bet on that person or that content. That link does not guarantee demand, and both kinds of coin can go to zero.\n\nSee pump.fun vs Zora and Bags vs Zora for side-by-side numbers. Clanker is the closest match on Base: it also skips the bonding curve and pays creators a share of trading fees. See Clanker vs Zora. Virtuals also runs on Base but wraps tokens around AI agents. See Zora vs Virtuals.\n\n### Is Zora legit and safe?\n\nZora Labs, Inc. runs the Zora app and website, according to the Zora terms of service (last updated 15 May 2026). The terms say Delaware law governs them. Zora started as an NFT platform, and its help centre now lists NFT minting as a removed feature. Coins on the current system date from February 2025, based on the legacy fee table in the help centre.\n\nZora says its wallets are self-custodial. A new account gets a wallet built with Privy, a wallet provider, and the terms say only you can sign transactions from it. The terms also say Zora does not hold custody of tokens. You can also link an existing wallet from a provider such as Rainbow, Coinbase or MetaMask.\n\nIn April 2025, during the ZORA token airdrop, an attacker took tokens that the airdrop had assigned to a 0x contract address. The security firm Three Sigma described the attack in an analysis on 29 April 2025. The flaw sat in the airdrop claim set-up, not in creator or content coins. In our search on 1 October 2026, we found no public report of a hack of creator coin contracts or of user wallets on Zora.\n\nThe main risk is the coins themselves. The Zora terms say token prices are highly volatile. Most coins on Zora are tied to one post or one person, and their value can fall to zero. We could not confirm which of Zora's two creator-share figures applies, and we could not confirm whether the $0.50 transaction fee stacks on the pool fee.\n\n### Zora app review: what you get\n\nZora runs as a mobile app and as a website at zora.co. You sign up with an email address, and the app creates a wallet for you. You can buy a coin straight from the feed with a quick buy, and each token page has a trade panel, a chart, recent activity and a list of holders.\n\nZora's change log lists the main features added in 2025 and 2026: direct messages, livestreams, autosell for a creator's own coins, a profit and loss view, an AI agent that can buy and sell coins in chat, and deposits with Apple Pay in the US with no deposit fee. Since December 2025, you can deposit SOL, and you can sell coins into ZORA, USDC, SOL or ETH.\n\nThe app is built for people who want a social feed, not a trading terminal. Our scoreboard shows fees and volume from DefiLlama's Zora Coins series. That series counts coins on Base and does not include Zora coins on Robinhood Chain or Solana.\n\n### Zora creator coin fees at a glance\n\n| Cost | Amount | Note |\n| --- | --- | --- |\n| Create a coin | No Zora fee | The help centre says creating a coin and turning on a creator coin are free. Each has a supply of 1 billion: half trades at once, and half vests to the creator over 5 years. Creator coins run on Base and pair against ZORA.\n\n### How do Zora creator coins work?\n\nEach coin trades in its own Uniswap V4 pool from launch. A hook on the pool takes a 1% fee on each trade, pays the creator and referrers in ZORA, and keeps 20% of the fee in the pool as liquidity. There is no bonding curve.\n\n### What are the fees on Zora creator coins?\n\nCreator and content coins pay 1% per trade, and every new coin starts at 99% for its first 10 seconds. Custom Pair coins pay 1%, and trend coins pay 0.01%. The help centre also lists a $0.50 transaction fee on trades under $50.\n\n### How much does a creator earn on Zora?\n\nThe sources differ. The Zora docs give the creator 50% of the 1% fee, which is 0.5% of each trade. Two help centre articles edited 12 August 2026 say 1% of every trade. Custom Pair coins pay the creator 0.70% of each trade.\n\n### Is Zora legit?\n\nZora Labs, Inc. runs Zora under terms governed by Delaware law, and Zora says its wallets are self-custodial. In April 2025, an attacker took ZORA airdrop tokens assigned to a 0x contract. The coins on Zora are high risk and can lose all their value.\n\n### Do I need a creator coin to post on Zora?\n\nNo. The help centre marks creator coin activation as optional, and since March 2026 you can post to a Trend without one. Once you turn on a creator coin, you cannot turn it off.\n\n### Does Zora use a bonding curve?\n\nNo. Content coins and creator coins trade in automated pools from the moment they launch. There is no bonding curve and no separate graduation event.\n\n### Which chains does Zora support?\n\nZora coins trade on Base, Robinhood Chain and Solana. Creator coins use Base. Custom Pair coins can launch on Base, Robinhood Chain or Solana.\n\n### Does Zora have a referral program?\n\nZora pays referral fee shares to apps and accounts. The platform that brings in a creator gets 20% of the coin's fees, and the referrer of a trade gets 4%. Zora also runs a US-only new user reward of about $10 in ZORA. We know of no code that cuts trading fees.\n\n### Is Zora free to use?\n\nCreating a coin has no Zora fee. Trading is not free: most coins pay 1% per trade, plus any transaction fee the app shows. Check the trade quote before you confirm.","markdownUrl":"https://memefees.com/reviews/zora.md"}]}
